Our Mission

To increase the participation of black women athletes in action sport competitions and careers.

About Us

Jumpstarting our advocacy in 2020.

Founded on June 19, 2022, by Nicole Humphrey with the support of local social skate organizers, BGS is a community-built nonprofit dedicated to fostering safety, promoting health awareness, rallying resources, advancing equity, and developing play spaces for youth and young adult shredders (ages 15-25). While our primary focus is on uplifting the Black community, we are committed to all communities of color and marginalized identities, creating inclusive opportunities across action sports for shredders of all styles and skill levels. From skateboarding and roller skating to biking, surfing, figure skating, snowboarding, and beyond, everything we do is in collaboration with community, intentionally centering those who identify as WOMEN, LGBTQIA, and GNC.

Our Belief

We believe that through access, information, and resources the world of action sports can grow to become more inclusive and intentional spaces for Black athletes.

We believe that all people have a right to quality of life spaces and if given the right development and opportunities, they will become viable competitors, artists, and engineers within the action sports industry.
